This is a great class for anyone who knows how to Follow a Sewing Pattern, but is not quite ready to Sew a Shorts and Top Set. Students should have a good level of confidence behind the sewing machine and be ready to expand their skillset. In this workshop, we’ll be creating a multi-signature, lay-flat blank book. You’ll learn how to sew signatures using the 5-hole pamphlet stitch, then bind them together into a rustic text block using rag ribbon. Once the foundation is built, we’ll finish by covering our books in reclaimed textiles or leather, making each piece truly unique. This class is designed to give you both skills and confidence, while offering the satisfaction of walking away with a beautiful, functional book you’ve made with your own hands. In this 4-week class, you will learn basic techniques to repair your favorite knits. We will discuss sweater care and best practices along the way. These techniques can all be done as visible mends or blended in.

Week 1: Basic darning

Week 2: Fine knits

Week 3: Chunky knits

Week 4: Swiss darning and duplicate stitch

We will be providing material to practice on, however, if you have any sweaters you'd like to repair, please bring those along.

In this 2-hour quilting class, you will learn the art of quilting. Improvisational Quilting, put simply, is a resourceful style of quilting that doesn’t rely on patterns. It requires trust, chance and fabric scraps. In this workshop, we’ll explore the rich history of improv quilting and try our hand at constructing an improv quilt block from start to finish!

In this 2-hour machine sewing class taught by Amanda Campbell, you will learn how to alter or mend garments in your closet that you need help with. We’ll figure out what needs to be changed, how to approach it, and how to execute the alteration correctly.

Have a garment sitting in your closet that needs to be hemmed, taken in, repaired, or adjusted, but not quite sure how to fix it? Bring 2-4 of your own garments and work on the projects that are most useful to you. Amanda will be available throughout the session to help you assess fit and construction issues, determine the best alteration method, demonstrate techniques, and guide you through completing the work yourself. In this 4-week class, you will learn basic techniques to repair your favorite knits. We will discuss sweater care and best practices along the way. These techniques can all be done as visible mends or blended in.

Week 4: Swiss darning and duplicate stitch

We will be providing material to practice on, however, if you have any sweaters you'd like to repair, please bring those along.

Please note: If you think any of your items have damage from moths (i.e. moth holes), you will need to place them in a ziplock bag and put them in your freezer for a minimum of 72 hours before class. This usually happens to sweaters, scarves and other items that are made of natural fibers like wool and alpaca- you will not often see actual moths- just the holes they have left. Please keep your items in the ziplocks until class. This stops them from snacking and protects everyone else’s garments, it is extremely important to keep the studio moth-free.

This class is good for anyone who’s never touched a sewing machine or is revisiting one and is aged 12+. If you are looking for a class for someone younger than 12, please see our 1:1 lessons.

We have portable sewing machines that you can borrow if you don’t currently have one. Please note that you’d like to use a studio machine when prompted for the make/model of your machine during sign-up. If you have your own machine, please bring that to class along with your power cord/pedal, manual (if you have it) and an empty bobbin or two.

The Top Stitch Studio is located at 203 Hull St, Suite C in Manchester. There is typically street parking within a block or two and a small shared parking lot located at the very corner of Hull St. and Brander St. with a few spaces. Please do not park in the larger lot behind the building as it requires a permit and you could be towed.

In this 2-hour, machine sewing class (formerly named Continued Sewing), you will learn to read a very basic pattern and follow the directions to make a drawstring bag! Along the way, we’ll cover common pattern vocabulary and symbols, practice different styles of pinning fabric, and explore zig zag stitches. We will also briefly review threading your machine, loading your bobbin, and using reverse before diving in. If you have a pattern that you have question about, please feel free to bring that along.
